The HuntThe Hunt by Andrew Fukuda
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Gene is a human going to an all-vampire school. Humans are thought to be near extinction and no one would ever suspect one to be blending into vampire society. Most vampires have never seen a human so when The Hunt is announced they are eager to participate. The Hunt is a race, between individuals selected by lottery, to chase down and kill the last humans that are living in captivity. Every vampire is dying to be selected to participate in this event, except for Gene, because how can he hunt down and kill other humans without the vampires suspecting him of being one too. When he is selected for The Hunt he is expected to train with the other vampires. When Gene meets the humans, called hepers, that he will be hunting he can’t believe they are just like him. He was taught that they were backward savages. After meeting them he has to decide on whether or not to continue on or think of a way to get out of the hunt. He’s pretty sure he’s figured it out until he meets another human pretending to be a vampire. Now Gene is not sure of anything anymore, especially when he finds clues left by a scientist at the training facility that may lead to a safe haven for humans.

The main character, Gene, in this book is unique because even though he is surrounded by vampires he is all alone. He goes to extreme measures to blend in and not be noticed. There were plenty of surprises in this story that I was not expecting. This book is filled with trepidation, and was hard to put down!

The Hunt is a truly original vampire story. These vampires aren't here to fall in love, they're here to devour!

I received a copy of The Hunt through a First Reads giveaway. The book was provided by the publisher.

Switched (Trylle Trilogy, #1)Switched by Amanda Hocking
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Switched by Amanda Hocking was great! Wendy's mother tried to kill her when she was 6 years old. Wendy and her older brother, Matt, have been living with their aunt since their father died when Wendy was young. Wendy's mom always told her that she was a monster, and that Wendy was not her child. Wendy has always felt like she doesn't belong anywhere. She's constantly being kicked out of school, and thus forcing her aunt and brother to move around. She's never made any friends but at her new school she is constanlty being wathched by the new kid Finn. When she confronts him he leaves her more confused than ever, and wondering if maybe her mom was right after all.

I was hooked from the very beginning of this book and could not put it down. I was honestly suprised when I found out what Wendy really is. I was not expecting it, and it's so different than what has been done by YA authors lately. I'll be starting the second book soon!!

Heart of the HuntressHeart of the Huntress by Tess Oliver
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Tess Oliver has a special place in the list of my favorite authors. Her book Camille was the first e-book I ever purchased for my kindle. I fell in love with the author and book immediately. I’ve made it my priority to read every single book written by Tess Oliver, and I’m slowly making my way through the list.

I loved the first book, Camille, and I was ecstatic when I realized it would be a series. Heart of the Huntress was fantastic. I didn’t believe it would be possible but I loved it even more than the first book. Camille and Nathaniel are together, and Nathaniel has been living his dream of working as a sailor. Dr. Bennett has agreed to travel to Transylvania to help with the werewolf problem there. The four of them; Camille, Nathaniel, Dr. Bennett, and Emily, all board the ship that Nathaniel has been working on to make the journey. Nathaniel and Camille are forced to act as strangers in order to keep Nathaniel’s good standing with the crew. It isn’t long before everything starts going wrong, and a young maid is killed by a werewolf. It seems like the trip was a bad idea and it may be impossible for anyone to return home alive…

This by far, is my favorite book by Tess Oliver. Camille is stronger than ever, though she does tend to lean more on Nathaniel. Nathaniel is amazing. He is crazy in love with Camille and proves it constantly by actions and words. This story is great, the characters are amazing and the ending was perfect. I truly hope this will not be the last book, because I am not ready to let go of Camille and Nathaniel!!

Scorched Skies (Fire Spirits #2)Scorched Skies by Samantha Young
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Scorched Skies is a great sequel! The book starts off with Ari being frustrated, confused, and heartbroken! Ari's dad, Derek, knows the truth about her, and isn't dealing well. Someone close to Ari dies, and then someone else tries to kidnap her. Ari sets out with Jai and Charlie, with the help of the Red King, to pursue the man that wants to kidnap her. Along the way she has to deal with new friends, confusing feelings, and betrayal.

This story was awesome! I love the characters, especially Ari and Jai! We get to meet new characters, and get a deeper look at previous ones. Ari is having a hard time dealing with Jai's rejection and Charlie is having a hard time getting over Ari. Once again Samantha Young has written a book that I could not put down.

The Last Arrow (Robin Hood, #3)The Last Arrow by Marsha Canham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Last Arrow is the final book in Marsha Canham's Robin Hood trilogy. It's the story of Brenna, the Black Wolf and Lady Servanne's daughter. She's her father’s favorite daughter and has spent more time on the back of a warhorse and learning to shoot a bow than learning manners and wearing dresses. When she finds a poacher on their land she's surprised to find out it's one of Robin's acquaintances from a long ago tournament. Everyone seems to take to Griffyn Renaud, except Brenna who is suspicious he's a mercenary hired to kill Robin. When trouble starts in England Robin heads that way to help out. There's no way Brenna is going to stay behind, and because he can't kill Robin if he's doesn't go along Griffyn joins the party too. What happens when Brenna realizes she may have feelings for the man she believes was paid to kill her brother?

This book is my favorite from this trilogy. Brenna is awesome! She's a great character that I couldn't help but love. Through the trilogy we've met different characters and this book has some of the best. There's plenty of action, adventure, and romance to make it impossible to put this book down. I'm sad that I've come to the end of the series but I will definitely read more by Marhsa Canham.

In the Shadow of Midnight (Robin Hood, #2)In the Shadow of Midnight by Marsha Canham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In the Shadow of Midnight is another great book by Marsha Canham. Book 2 in the Robin Hood series takes place about 14 years after the first one left off. It follows the story of Eduard, who has become a fearsome knight in his own right. King John has kidnapped Princess Eleanor of Brittany, who is the rightful ruler of England. Eduard, along with other knights sneak into England under the disguise of a wedding party. They are supposed to be delivering Ariel, the niece of one of the Black Wolf's allies, to her betrothed. The only problem is that King John arranged the marriage and no one is happy with it. Especially Ariel, the stubborn, smart-mouthed beauty who is more interested in the rescue mission than meeting her future husband. Eduard has vowed that during this rescue mission he will deliver Ariel to her intended with unharmed, and untouched. The problem is that Eduard doesn't know if he can keep his oath to keep his hands off her...

Marsha Canham has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Her historical fictions books are extremely entertaining and true to the time that that she is depicting. There are so many historical facts weaved into her stories that make her books hard to put down. Plus, her characters are great! Each character is fully developed. It's hard to not be completely emotionally tied to them. I look forward to continuing this series!!

Through a Dark Mist (Robin Hood, #1)Through a Dark Mist by Marsha Canham
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Through a Dark Mist was great! Lady Servanne is on her way to meet her betrothed when she is captured by the infamous Black Wolf. She's sure Lucian, her betrothed, will coming riding to the rescue and deal with the kidnapper who has been committing crimes in her future husband's name. After hearing stories of his warrior deeds, and rugged handsomeness Servanne has been anxious to meet her soon to be husband. Unexpectantly for Servanne she may find love before her betrothed arrives...

This historical romance is set in the Middle Ages around the time of King Richard Lionheart, and his conniving brother Prince John. The story has a Robin Hood theme that was absolutely intriguing. With castles, knights, and damsels in distress it was hard to put this book down!

Exiled (Immortal Essence, #1)Exiled by RaShelle Workman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Exiled is the story of Venus. She's from another planet, Kelari, but ends up on earth accidentally. The only way for her to return to her plant is for her to complete the task that the gods have for her. Luckily, Venus is a princess where she's from so she's not on earth alone. Her bodyguard is eager to protect her, and he's hoping that while they are away from their home he can show Venus how he really feels for her. To get back home all Venus has to do is help Michael find his soul mate. Sounds easy, right? Unfortunately Michael has never known love, not even from his parents. And with an exiled Kelarian trying to stop her Venus' task seems impossible.

The story was enjoyable but not memorable. There were too many gory details about the sacrificial killings committed by the exiled Kelarian. There was an interesting twist at the end of the story, but I am not sure it is enough to make me want to continue this series.

Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls, #1)Born at Midnight by C.C. Hunter
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Born at Midnight was a great book! Kylie is going through some problems. Her parents are getting a divorce, her boyfriend just dumped her, her grandmother died, and to top it all off she got busted at a party with drugs and alcohol. Even though she was clean her parents decide to send her off to a camp for juvenille delinquents. Needless to say Kyle isn't to happy about spending her summer a camp full of misfits. The moment she gets on the bus, Kyle knows there's something different about these kids. From the boy with the color-changing eyes, to the goth girl with the toad and the extremley pale girl with the dark black sunglasses. Somethings not right here and Kylie is pretty there's no way she should be grouped into the same category as them; except maybe sometimes she sees ghosts...

This book was so full of suprises I don't even know where to begin. Kylie is a fun character. She's strong and determined, and maybe a little stubborn about her "special abilities." Then there's her unique friends, Della the vampire, Miranda the witch, Derek the half fae, and Lucas the werewolf. I loved both Derek and Lucas but I am really pulling for Lucas!

The ending was awesome! It's not a big cliffhanger but it definitely left me desperate for the next book!

Shadowed Souls (Volume 1)Shadowed Souls by Allison Aileen Masters
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I won a copy of Shadowed Souls in a Goodreads First Reads contest. The book was provided by the author.

Shadowed Souls is the story of Ava. She’s a Scottish woman living in NYC. World War III devastated the world and caused the formation of a one world government. Ava works as a special agent for the United Alliance. Ava can see angels and demons, unlike her twin sister Elora. Ava is an independent, spunky, sharp-tongued young woman. Ava and Elora’s mother stopped one of the biggest human cloning operations, and there is a prophecy that says Ava will finish where her mother left off. That’s where Aedus comes in. He’s the angel that’s going to train her. On top of worrying about the prophecy Ava is dealing with a case at work that has her investigating the local mafia.

This story was good, and there was always something going on. It was definitely unique. Ava is a great character although she’s a little boring. Her twin sister Elora seems to be a more developed character. While I enjoyed the story I thought maybe a little romance would have helped. The story is good but it wasn’t enough. It was hard to connect with Ava, or feel any emotions towards her. She is surrounded by attractive guys throughout the book, yet she feels nothing. Now, I’m not saying every book has to have some kind of love story infused into it, I just think this story would have been more entertaining with a bit of intrigue. That being said, I loved Gavin. I think there might be more to him than we’ve seen so far and I hope he’ll be in next book!

Oppression (Children of the Gods, #1)Oppression by Jessica Therrien
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Oppression was amazing! Elyse's parents die when she is young leaving her with a secret. She doesn't age like normal people. By the time she looks like a 16 year old she's really around 50 years old. By the time she looks 18 she is well into her 80's. For all her life she believes she is the only person with this "disease" but all that changes when she meets William. William knows her secret and the reason her parents hid her from the rest of their kind. The story was entertaining! There were so many surprises, and the Greek mythology that is weaved into this tale is fantastic. The characters are great! Ellie is strong, and independent but quickly comes to rely on Will. Will is perfect! He's strong, handsome, and completely besotted with Ellie. I look forward to reading the next book in this series!
