Elixir by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Covenant Series # 3.5

13605727

Aiden St. Delphi will do anything to save Alex.
Even if it means doing the one thing he will never forgive himself for.
Even if it means making war against the gods.

Oh, Aiden! I have always been a fan of Aiden. He was always there for Alex (even if it was only in the background). They are so perfect for each other, and after reading Deity I could not wait to get my hands on this novella. In Elixir we get to see the fierce, protective, loving side of Aiden. I seriously don't think there is anything I loved more than this story in Aiden's POV. He is dealing with a lot since the end of the last book (I'm trying to stay spoiler free), and his emotions are pretty tense throughout this story. He's not afraid to punch anyone in the face that doesn't have Alex's well-being in mind, not even Apollo. He is extremely loyal and in love.

I also enjoyed meeting a few more gods and goddesses. We met Apollo in Deity, and now we met Dionysus (picture a laid-back, college aged god that likes to drink and party; seriously I hope we see more of Dionysus). The gods are preparing for war against Lucien and Seth, and Alex may be the only way to prevent it.

Aiden is going to protect her no matter what, and his faith and hope in their love for each other is breathtaking. If you are a fan of The Covenant Series you do not want to miss this novella. It sets up a great entry into Apollyon and will leave you even more anxious to get your hands on book four than Deity (which I thought was impossible to do).

My rating: 5 Lotus Flowers….. because you won’t want this book to end!

The Mayfair Moon
& Kindred
by J.A. Redmerski
My Rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Darkwoods Trilogy is definitely not your normal werewolf story. I love that there is so much going against Adria in these stories. Her mother continues to stay in an abusive relationship, and her sister betrays her, but Adria is a strong female protagonist. Her relationship with Isaac is awesome! I love these two. She has some great friends to help her out. Harry, and Daisy are my favorites. Adria really transforms throughout the books. She's not the typical whiny, dependent female lead. She's pretty tough. The story is engrossing. I don't want to give too much away, but you won't want to put any of these books down, especially the second one. I love this trilogy and can't wait to read the final book. Thankfully, we don't have to wait long!

Tempting the Player (Gamble Brothers, #2)Tempting the Player by J. Lynn

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: Chad Gamble, all-star pitcher for the Nationals, is one of the best players on—and off—the field. And right now, the notorious bad boy wants Bridget Rodgers. But with her lush curves and snappy comebacks, the feisty redhead is the kind of woman a man wants to settle down with…and that’s the last thing Chad needs.

When the paparazzi catch them in a compromising position, Chad’s manager issues an ultimatum: clean up his act or kiss his multi-million dollar contract goodbye. To save his career, his meddling publicist says he'll have to convince everyone Bridget isn’t just his flavor of the week, but his girlfriend.

Being blackmailed into a fake relationship with Chad Gamble isn’t easy, especially when the sizzling physical attraction between them is undeniable. With a month to go on their arranged pretense, it's going to take every ounce of willpower they have not to fall into bed together...or in love.

I love, love, love the Gamble brothers! This book was just as much fun as the first one. This is Chad and Bridget's story. We meet them in Tempting the Best Man. I loved Bridget. She's quirky, and imperfect and that is the reason Chad is so attracted to her. This story had me laughing out loud! The characters are tons of fun. Two down, one Gamble brother to go. I look forward to reading Chandler's story!!

Marked (Eternal Guardians, #1)Marked by Elisabeth Naughton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: THERON – Dark haired, duty bound and deceptively deadly. He’s the leader of the Argonauts, an elite group of guardians that defends the immortal realm from threats of the Underworld.

From the moment he walked into the club, Casey knew this guy was different. Men like that just didn’t exist in real life—silky shoulder-length hair, chest impossibly broad, and a predatory manner that just screamed dark and dangerous. He was looking for something. Her.

She was the one. She had the mark. Casey had to die so his kind could live, and it was Theron’s duty to bring her in. But even as a 200-year-old descendent of Hercules, he wasn’t strong enough to resist the pull in her fathomless eyes, to tear himself away from the heat of her body.

As war with the Underworld nears, someone will have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

A book about the Argonauts...what's not to love? This book was fantastic. Theron is seriously hot! I loved the mythology, and the characters that the author used. Atalanta is the bad-guy (girl) in the story, and she seriously has it out for Casey. But that's okay, because Theron is there for her! There are plenty of unexpected twist that made this an interesting, fun, unique story! I can't wait to read more!

Deity (Covenant, #3)Deity by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: Alexandria isn't sure she's going to make it to her eighteenth birthday--to her Awakening. A long-forgotten, fanatical order is out to kill her, and if the Council ever discovers what she did in the Catskills, she's a goner... and so is Aiden.

If that's not freaky enough, whenever Alex and Seth spend time "training"--which really is just Seth's code word for some up-close and personal one-on-one time--she ends up with another mark of the Apollyon, which brings her one step closer to Awakening ahead of schedule. Awesome.

But as her birthday draws near, her entire world shatters with a startling revelation and she's caught between love and Fate. One will do anything to protect her. One has been lying to her since the beginning. Once the gods have revealed themselves, unleashing their wrath, lives will be irrevocably changed... and destroyed.

Those left standing will discover if love is truly greater than Fate...

Once again Jennifer L. Armentrout has written a phenomenal book! This book was beyond awesome! Alex has some serious things to deal with. She's not sure how she feels about Seth or Aiden. I love Aiden so I was estatic when things finally started to heat up between the two. I always knew there was a reason I immediately didn't like Seth. We get answers in this book that only make you want to ask more questions. The writing is great, the mythology is intriguing, and the characters are fantastic. THE ENDING... OMG!!!! Seriously, how long do we have to wait for the next book! I am on pins and needles... I need it now! At least we get Elixir, Aiden's POV to help tide us over! Well done JLA!!

CursedCursed by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: Dying sucks-- and high school senior Ember McWilliams knows firsthand. After a fatal car accident, her gifted little sister brought her back. Now anything Ember touches dies. And that, well, really blows.

Ember operates on a no-touch policy with all living things--including boys. When Hayden Cromwell shows up, quoting Oscar Wilde and claiming her curse is a gift, she thinks he's a crazed cutie. But when he tells her he can help control it, she's more than interested. There's just one catch: Ember has to trust Hayden's adopted father, a man she's sure has sinister reasons for collecting children whose abilities even weird her out.

However, she's willing to do anything to hold her sister's hand again. And hell, she'd also like to be able to kiss Hayden. Who wouldn't? But when Ember learns the accident that turned her into a freak may not have been an accident at all, she's not sure who to trust. Someone wanted her dead, and the closer she gets to the truth, the closer she is to losing not only her heart, but her life. For real this time.

I am huge fan of Jennifer L. Armentrout. I am addicted to both her Covenant and Lux series'. I enjoyed Cursed but it wasn't as good as her other books. I had a hard time getting into the story at first. The characters were interesting but could get confusing at times. I will still read whatever JLA writes, but this fell a litte flat compared to the rest of her works.

Fifty Shades trilogy

Fifty Shades of Grey (Fifty Shades, #1) Fifty Shades Darker (Fifty Shades, #2) Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades, #3)

Well, I did it. I finally sat down and read the Fifty Shades trilogy. I admit I was reluctant to read these books because there were so many mixed reviews, but I am glad that I did. I enjoyed them. Yep, I said it. I liked the books. BUT, I don’t think they are the awesome-OMG-I’m-going-to-die-if-I-don’t-read-the-next-one-ASAP type book. I thought the main character, Ana, was whiney throughout the entire first book. Seriously, she cried the majority of the time. I liked Christian. He is such a tortured character, that really comes a long way by the end of the series. I especially liked that he didn’t have an overnight transition. It took time for him to change and open up to Ana. My one MAJOR problem with the books is that the author really is a terrible writer. I hate saying that about any author because I can only imagine how hard it is to write a story and then put it out there for the world to pick apart, but I am surprised these books weren’t edited better. The author has a serious problem with repetition, which drove me crazy. All in all, I liked the books and I would probably read more by the author.

Down to YouDown to You by M. Leighton

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: The scorching tale of one girl, two brothers and a love triangle…that’s not.

Olivia Townsend is nothing special. She’s just a girl working her way through college so she can return home to help her father run his business. She’s determined not to be the second woman in his life to abandon him, even if it means putting her own life on hold. To Olivia, it’s clear what she must do. Plain and simple. Black and white.

But clear becomes complicated when she meets Cash and Nash Davenport. They’re brothers. Twins.
Cash is everything she’s always wanted in a guy. He’s a dangerous, sexy bad boy who wants her in his bed at any cost. He turns her insides to mush and, with just one kiss, makes her forget why he’s no good for her.

Nash is everything she’s ever needed in a guy. He’s successful, responsible and intensely passionate. But he’s taken. Very taken, by none other than Marissa, Liv’s rich, beautiful cousin. That doesn’t stop Olivia from melting every time he looks at her, though. With just one touch, he makes her forget why they can never be together.

Black and white turns to shades of gray when Olivia discovers the boys are hiding something, something that should make her run as far and as fast as she can. But it’s too late to run. Olivia’s already involved. And in love. With both of them.

Both brothers make her heart tremble. Both brothers set her body on fire.

She wants them both.

And they want her.

How will she ever choose between them?(

Wow! This book was awesome! I was torn between Cash and Nash. I loved Olivia, and couldn't stand her roommate/cousin Marissa. This is one of my favorite authors so I figured I would like the book. It was so much fun to read. I am super excited for the sequel!

Official Opal Cover

I am so excited to be able to take part in the cover reveal for Opal, the third book in the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I love this author, and the series, and I am super excited about this next book!

No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger... and they know it.

On Dublin StreetOn Dublin Street by Samantha Young

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From Goodreads:Four years ago, Jocelyn Butler left her tragic past behind in the States and started over in Edinburgh. Burying the grief, ignoring her demons, and forging ahead without any real attachments has worked well for her so far but when Joss moves into a fantastic apartment on Dublin Street, her carefully guarded world is shaken to its core by her new roommate's sexy older brother.

Braden Carmichael is a man who always gets what he wants. And what he wants is Jocelyn in his bed. Knowing how skittish Joss is concerning any kind of relationship, Braden proposes a sexual arrangement that should satisfy the intense attraction between them without it developing into anything 'more'. An intrigued Jocelyn agrees, completely unprepared for the Scotsman and his single-minded determination to strip the stubborn young woman bare... to the very soul.

On Dublin Street was FANTASTIC! There's nothing better than reading a book that you have been anticipating, from an author you love, that you just KNOW is going to be good, and having that book surpass all of your expectations! There was a level of emotional depth that I was completely surprised by. Why was I surprised? Seriously I knew Samantha Young was a great author. I've read ALL of her YA books. I am honestly excited that she has dipped into adult fiction. Her writing is awesome and her skills are showcased best so far in this book!
Joss is so emotionally challenged but that only makes her so much more interesting. And Braden? BRADEN! Oh My... he is a sexy, strong-willed, but perfect, character for Joss. His wee sister Ellie, and Joss' roommate, helps tie the two together with her shy, naive, romantic view of love. Joss has some serious demons to deal with and Braden and Ellie are just what she needs! I loved everything about the story and the characters and I can't wait to read more adult fiction by Samantha Young!

Author Spotlight: Vonda Sinclair

A little Highlander love…

121965011259343415760937

Vonda Sinclair’s Highland Adventures series is one of my newest favorite Highland books. I love a good romance about Scottish warriors and I devoured these three books. The first two books are about two brothers and the third is about one of their friends. There are tons of books about Highland warriors but these books are fantastic. The stories are addictive and the characters are perfect! If you’re looking for a good, quick read I highly recommend these books!

Tab Bennett and the InbetweenTab Bennett and the Inbetween by Jes Young

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: Yesterday Tab Bennett was a bank teller. Today she’s at the center of a centuries old war between Light and Dark. Tomorrow...well let’s just say she’ll be lucky if she lives to see it.

Engaged to her childhood sweetheart, employed at the local bank, and finally living on her own for the first time at twenty-four years-old, Tab Bennett has no interest in a fairy tale life. She’s perfectly happy with the normal one she already has. But when her sister is murdered on a moon-dark night, revealing a world of power and magic she never dreamed existed, a fairy tale is exactly what her life becomes. Figures it would have to be the Grimm kind.

Just like that, the life she had planned is over. Instead of cashing checks and handing out lollipops, Tab is unraveling clandestine assassination plots and learning to wield the magic that is her birthright. And as if fulfilling her destiny isn’t hard enough, she’ll also have to choose between Robbin, a man who’s turned out to be a lot more complicated than the proverbial boy next door, and Alexander, the handsome prince whose smile leaves her weak-kneed and weak-willed.

Now, while Tab struggles to hold on to the human world she’s always known and understand her place in the magical one she’s just discovered, dangerous forces are gathering close to home. If she wants to live to see happily ever after, she’ll have to figure out who she can trust, who wants her dead, and why. The answers will change everything she believes about herself, the people she loves, and the place she calls home.

Tab Bennet and the Inbetween was soooo good. After the death of her sister Tab learns that everything in her life is not what it seems. She learns her fiancee is not who she thought, neither are her family. Then Alexander (a prince!) shows up and she practically jumps in his lap the first time they meet. She's confused about her life and her split feelings between Robbin and Alexander. She has to deal with the loss of her sister, and all the changes in her life. Tab is a great character. She's a little stubborn and naive but that just makes her much more interesting. There are so many twists in this story but it's awesome! I was seriously suprised by some of what I learned throughout the book. This is a fantastic story (I would definitely reread this), and I hope book two comes out soon!

Hell on Wheels (Black Knights, Inc., #1)Hell on Wheels by Julie Ann Walker

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: He’s the bad boy she’s always wanted...

Nate “Ghost” Weller has loved Ali Morgan nearly half his life. But he’s done something so heinous he’s convinced she’ll never forgive him if she discovers the truth, so he keeps his feelings and his secrets to himself. Then she blows into town with a mother lode of bad guys on her tail and Nate can’t deny she’s in serious trouble. Unfortunately, he’s the only one who can help her.

She’s the good girl he’s kept at arm’s length...

Ali knows Nate as the most solemn, aloof man on the planet. Sadly, he’s also the sexiest. For years she’s avoided him, unable to stomach his dark scowls and brooding silences… especially when she secretly yearns for his touch. Now she must rely on him to save her from the malevolent shadows ghosting her every move. When the bullets explode, so does their passion. But can love really conquer all? Or are some things just too terrible to forgive?

Hell on Wheels is a great start to the Black Knights, Inc. series. I thought the characters were great! Nate is the broody, quiet type while Ali is outgoing. They make a great couple. The story was interesting and introduced tons of characters that I cannot wait to read more about. This book contains lots of military jargon so if you're not used to it, you may find that to be a problem. I personally loved the way this book was written and I can't wait to read the next one in the series!

Author Spotlight: M. Leighton

I've recently come across a new author that I absolutely love. Since I've read a few of her books back-to-back I've decided not to review each one separately. I thought highlighting some of my favorite things about the books and M. Leighton would be a better way to share my love for her writing!

wild onesblood like poisonmadlymadly2madly3

So far everything that I've read by M. Leighton has been great. Her books are awesome! She's writes fast-paced stories with fun characters. Some of the books I've read so far contain cowboys, mermaids, and vampires (Oh My!). I also love her male characters. Trick, from The Wild Ones, and Jackson, from Madly, are two of my new favorite book boyfriends! M. Leighton has several more books that I have not read yet but I have every intention of making time for more of her work.

Onyx (Lux, #2)Onyx by Jennifer L. Armentrout

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…

Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.

Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I’m a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who’s got a secret of his own. He knows what’s happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. Hard.

But then everything changes…

I’ve seen someone who shouldn’t be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he’s never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them—from me?

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Onyx, the second book in the Lux series, was FANTASTIC! Daemon and Katy are back!! In this book we see a different side to Daemon. He's trying to convince Katy that their connection does not affect his feelings for her. Katy is SUPERWOMAN! Seriously, she constantly stops Daemon's attempts to have a relationship because he was such a jerk when they first met. I don't think I could have held off for that long! Way to go Katy. It's great to read about a character who doesn't fall head-over-heels in love with a guy even though she's attracted to him, and they have great chemistry. The tension between the two made the book so much better. We're also introduced to a new guy in town, Blake. He's responsible for some of the tension between Daemon and Katy.

This book is non-stop action. Katy's character really develops throughout the story. She is a stronger character with lots of problems from the "Daemon healing." Also, if you haven't read Shadows, the novella about Dawson and Bethany, you're going to want to before reading Onyx. We all know Daemon's one big regret is not knowing what happened to Dawson. There are plenty of hints in this book and it will make more sense if you've read Dawson and Bethany's story.

Once again Jennifer L. Armentrout wrote an amazing book with great characters, and an exciting story. She's one of my favorite authors. The ending of this book was pretty awesome. It's definitely a cliffhanger, but an extremely satisfying one!

Biting Cold (Chicagoland Vampires, #6)Biting Cold by Chloe Neill

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From Goodreads: Turned into a vampire against her will, twenty-eight-year-old Merit found her way into the dark circle of Chicago’s vampire underground, where she learned there was more to supernaturals than met the eye—and more supernaturals than the public ever imagined. And not all the secrets she learned were for sharing—among humans or inhumans.

Now Merit is on the hunt, charging across the stark American Midwest, tailing a rogue supernatural intent on stealing an ancient artifact that could unleash catastrophic evil on the world. But Merit is also the prey. An enemy of Chicagoland is hunting her, and he’ll stop at nothing to get the book for himself. No mercy allowed. No rules apply. No lives spared. The race is on.

Biting Cold was freakin' awesome! This book had everything I wanted. Ethan is back (YAY!!) and the tension between him and Merit is thick. Mallory is still on her crazy streak but Merit is determined to not give up on her friend. There were so many twists in this book. I was worried that since this is already the 6th book in the series that I may start to lose interest, but that's not the case. Not even close! Plus I love the way the author ended the book. Cadogan House is moving in a new direction and I can't wait to read what Mrs. Neill has in mind!

The Immortal Rules (Blood of Eden, #1)The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

From the cover: "In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity."Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of "them." The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked--and given the ultimate choice. Die...or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend--a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what--and who--is worth dying for.

I am a big fan of Julie Kagawa. I loved her Iron Fey series, and I am looking forward to reading the spin-off, but I couldn’t help but compare The Immortal Rules to other popular books. This book was great and I thought the characters were complex but I couldn’t stop making comparisons.

Here are the issues that bugged me the most:

1. Any fan of the Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine will immediately relate Kagawa’s blood bank/vampire society to the Morganville Vamps.

2. The idea of scavenging and finding the hidden underground food cache is eerily reminiscent of a scene in The Road by Cormac McCarthy.

3. The new female vampire who ends up being a Type-2 in the vampire hierarchy, and wields a katana reminds me too much of Merit from the Chicagoland Vampire series by Chloe Neill.

With that said I’ll probably read the next book in the series because I did like the characters, and I am interested enough to want to find out what happened. I think Zeke is my favorite. He has some pretty strong false fanatical ideas that were practically beat into him and I love the way he came to trust Allie even though she represents everything that he is against. Even though this story wasn’t completely original I liked it enough that I will read the next book.

Awry (The Archers of Avalon, #2)Awry by Chelsea Fine

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the cover: Sometimes love is meant to be. But sometimes...love is the death of you....

Seventeen-year-old Scarlet has just died. Only, dying isn't unusual for a girl under a centuries old curse that left her semi-immortal.

This time, though, she comes back to her current life instead of awaking in a new one, and she realizes the curse is changing. Together with the immortal Archer brothers, Scarlet must piece together her life and try to break the curse before her impending death comes again.

Scarlet and the Archer brothers, Gabriel and Tristan, were all born in the 1500s. Because their mother drank from the fountain of youth when she was pregnant with the twin brothers they are immortal. Because Scarlet has some of Tristan’s blood in her heart she is semi-immortal. She dies, but is reborn decades later. The first book ended with a huge cliffhanger and Awry picks up where Anew left off. The friends are searching for the fountain of youth to save Scarlet from the never ending cycle of dying and rebirth. They are hoping by drinking from the fountain she will be fully immortal. So many of my questions were answered in this book. We finally learn why Scarlet is attracted to both brothers, and what happened in the first lives together. This book was awesome. The author really knows how to twist a good story. Plus, Scarlet finally chooses a brother, and I am definitely happy with her choice. I cannot wait to read the next book in this series!

Borrowed Ember (Fire Spirits #3)Borrowed Ember by Samantha Young

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the cover: Everything in Ari’s life until this point has been borrowed.
Her human life with a man who wasn't her real father.
A love for a boy who needed more than her to be strong.
Kisses with a Jinn who refused to do anything but lend them out in moments of weakness.
And even her resolve, which seemed to fail her whenever she needed it most.

But Ari is done borrowing. She finally feels strong enough to make hunting Jinn not just a hobby to get her through her dismal situation, but to make hunting a permanent and necessary career. Her friendship with Charlie might finally make it onto real and steady ground if only she can save him from the trial on Mount Qaf. And her love for Jai could be eternal, if only she could gain control over the darkness of the Seal within her.

Ari believes all of this is doable. That finally she will truly own the relationships in her life and to a certain extent have ownership over her future.

But none of that matters when it isn't up to her…

…For high in the emerald mountains of Mount Qaf, the Sultan Azazil has been keeping secrets.
Even from the Jinn Kings.
Secrets that will change everything… and bring Ari to the crashing realization that once again…

… she’s borrowed something that will never truly belong to her.

Something that is desperate to be unleashed.
Something that could destroy them all.

Samantha Young has quickly become one of my favorite authors. I've read everything she has written so far, and enjoyed every bit of it. Borrowed Ember is no different. This is the third book in the Fire Spirits series. It's packed with action, tragedy, and romance. Jai and Ari's relationships finally takes a more personal twist; it's not just about work anymore. They have some issues to work through, mainly Jai's family, but they are a great couple! Ari is confident, and resourceful just like in the past but now she has Jai to rely on. Of course Charlie is still around irritating the crap out of me. I understand Ari has an emotional attachment to her childhood best friend but he drives me crazy in this book. Plus, he's involved with Fallon. Yes, they make sense as a couple but I really have this dislike for Charlie (is it obvious?) and I hate the outcome of their relationship. All in all this story is engaging, and the characters are amusing. It's another gread read by Samantha Young, and I seriously can't wait for the next book. Especially, with the way she ended this one. It's not a cliffhanger, but it left me with a smile on my face and desperate to read the next in the series!

The HuntressThe Huntress by Dorothy McFalls

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

From the cover: Blond, beautiful bounty hunter Vega Brookes is on the hunt for her latest skip trace. Her prey, ex-special forces officer Grayson Walker, is ruthless, a killer. She shouldn't feel attracted to him. Even so, the closer she gets to finding Grayson, the louder her instincts shout that things are not what they seem.

It's only murder...
Grayson Walker is dangerous...and determined. Someone is killing those closest to him, and he's desperate to find out why. When a firecracker of a bounty hunter comes close to capturing him, he fights back and ends up shooting her. Yet not even a gunshot wound can cool the sparks that fly between them whenever they're together. Soon, his life turns into a deadly race to earn Vega's trust, track down a killer, and avoid falling in love.

The Huntress was a decent read about a bounty hunter named Vega. She is tough as nails and gets assigned to one of the nations hardest cases. No other bounty hunter has even came close to catching Grayson Walker, except Vega. Vega and Grayson have an immediate connection. Grayson is good at giving Vega the slip but Vega is just as good at finding him again. It's turns into a tale where Vega starts to believe Grayson's innocence and she tries to help him gain his freedom. This story was entertaining but a bit predictable.

Kissed in ParisKissed in Paris by Juliette Sobanet

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

From the cover: When 29-year-old event planner Chloe Turner wakes up penniless and without a passport in the Plaza Athénée Hotel in Paris, she only has a few fleeting memories of Claude, the suave French man who convinced her to have that extra glass of wine before taking all of her possessions and slipping out the door. As the overly organized, go-to gal for her three drama queen younger sisters, her anxiety-ridden father, and her needy clients, Chloe is normally prepared for every disaster that comes her way. But with her wedding to her straight-laced, lawyer fiancé back in DC only days away and a French con-man on the loose with her engagement ring, this is one catastrophe she never could have planned for.

As Chloe tries to figure out a way home, she runs into an even bigger problem—the police are after her due to suspicious activity now tied to her bank account. Chloe's only hope at retrieving her passport and clearing her name lies in the hands of a rugged, undercover agent named Julien who has a few secrets of his own. As Chloe follows this mysterious, and—although she doesn't want to admit it—sexy French man on a wild chase through the sun-kissed countryside of France, she discovers a magical world she never knew existed and has to decide if the perfectly ordered life she’s built for herself back home is really what she wants after all.

Kissed in Paris is another great book by author Juliette Sobanet. Chloe is a straight-up character that has a hard time relaxing. She's all business. When she's conned by a French man a handsome secret agent, Julien, believes she is innocent. He offers to help her regain her passport and clear her name. There are so many tension filled, funny moments as Chloe and Julien race across France to recover her stolen goods. Chloe knows that Julien is keeping information from her, but that doesn't stop her from falling for him; even though she has a fiance waiting for her at home. I loved the care-free attitude that Julien had in the book. It's a great story and I can't wait to read more by this author. Plus we get a brief glimpse of Charlotte and Luc, and what has happened since their story ended.

Sleeping with ParisSleeping with Paris by Juliette Sobanet
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

From the cover: Charlotte Summers is a sassy, young French teacher who is two days away from moving to Paris with the love of her life and from fulfilling her dream of studying at the prestigious Sorbonne University in France. But when she discovers her fiancé’s online dating profile and has a little chat with the busty red-head he’s been sleeping with on the side, she gives up on committed relationships altogether and decides to navigate Paris on her own.

Determined to stop other women from finding themselves in her shoes, Charlotte creates an anonymous blog on how to date like a man in the City of Love—that is, how to jump from bed to bed without ever falling in love. But, with a slew of Parisian men beating down her door, a hot new neighbor who feeds her chocolate in bed, and an appearance by her sleazy ex-fiancé, she isn’t so sure she can keep her promise to remain commitment-free.

And, when Charlotte agrees to write an article for a popular women’s magazine about her Parisian dating adventures—or disasters, rather—will she risk losing the one man who’s swept her off her feet and her dream job in one fell swoop?

I thought Sleeping with Paris was great! I've been reading a lot of urban fantasy and paranormal books lately and I really wanted to read something fun, and light. So when I found this kindle book for only $2.99 I had to buy it.

The story starts out a little emotional, Charlotte finds out her fiance has been cheating on her, but Charlotte quickly meets Luc when she moves to Paris. That's when the story really gets good. Charlotte is determined to "date like a man" rather than be worried about the normal female "emotional ties" to a relationship. She starts a blog to broadcast her adventures and offer advice to other women who have been hurt by cheating men. Charlotte meets some great friends and has a blast in Paris until it gets to be too much, and she realizes she is developing feelings for Luc. When she flies home for a friend's wedding she is faced with her ex-fiance and the woman that ruined their relationship.

This book is a fast-paced, fun read. The story was entertaining and it was the perfect book to ease my paranormal slump!

Gabriel's Rapture (Gabriel's Inferno, #2 )Gabriel's Rapture by Sylvain Reynard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the cover: Professor Gabriel Emerson has embarked on a passionate, yet clandestine affair with his former student, Julia Mitchell.

Sequestered on a romantic holiday in Italy, he tutors her in the sensual delights of the body and the rapture of sex. But when they return, their happiness is threatened by conspiring students, academic politics, and a jealous ex-lover.

When Gabriel is confronted by the university administration, will he be forced to share Dante’s fate? Or will he fight to keep Julia, his Beatrice, forever?

BEST SEQUEL EVER! I loved this book. It's everything I wanted. Julia and Gabriel are confronted about their unprofessional relationship by the university and they are forced apart. I was so heartbroken over this book! It was a fantastic story, and I loved the ending. Please, please, please Miss Reynard give us a third book!

Gabriel's Inferno (Gabriel's Inferno, #1)Gabriel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the cover: Enigmatic and sexy, Professor Gabriel Emerson is a well respected Dante specialist by day, but by night he devotes himself to an uninhibited life of pleasure. He uses his notorious good looks and sophisticated charm to gratify his every whim, but is secretly tortured by his dark past and consumed by the profound belief that he is beyond all hope of redemption.

When the sweet and innocent Julia Mitchell enrolls as his graduate student, his attraction and mysterious connection to her not only jeopardizes his career, but sends him on a journey in which his past and his present collide.

I absolutely loved this book! Julia is such a sweet, innocent, naive character. Gabriel is her professor that she has been in love with since they first met when she was 17. Unfortunately Gabriel does not remember her. He starts off as a cold, closed-off character until he realizes who Julia truly is. Once their past is confronted he will do anything he can to convince Julia to give him a chace. This book was fantastic. I loved the story, and the characters. I loved all the references throughout the book. Everytime I came to a song I wasn't familiar with I would look it up and listen to it. Sylvain Reynard is a great author and I cannot wait to read more about Julia and Gabriel!!

Hounded (Iron Druid Chronicles, #1)Hounded by Kevin Hearne
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

From the cover: Atticus O’Sullivan, last of the Druids, lives peacefully in Arizona, running an occult bookshop and shape-shifting in his spare time to hunt with his Irish wolfhound. His neighbors and customers think that this handsome, tattooed Irish dude is about twenty-one years old—when in actuality, he’s twenty-one centuries old. Not to mention: He draws his power from the earth, possesses a sharp wit, and wields an even sharper magical sword known as Fragarach, the Answerer.

Unfortunately, a very angry Celtic god wants that sword, and he’s hounded Atticus for centuries. Now the determined deity has tracked him down, and Atticus will need all his power—plus the help of a seductive goddess of death, his vampire and werewolf team of attorneys, a sexy bartender possessed by a Hindu witch, and some good old-fashioned luck of the Irish—to kick some Celtic arse and deliver himself from evil.

Atticus is an extremely entertaining character. He's 2000+ years old and he has seen it all. He's a very down-to-earth, fun person. He has a trusty wolfhound, Oberon, that provides plenty of comic dialogue. This story covers pretty much every religion's gods or goddesses, or higher being. Even though Atticus seems to have pretty bad luck in this story he's badass enough to deal with whatever comes his way!

Pieces of Eight (The Frey Saga, #2)Pieces of Eight by Melissa Wright
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

From the cover: After revealing her own dark past, Frey is forced to join with a group of strangers whose pasts seem to intertwine with her own. She struggles to regain her memories, her full power, only to find there is more danger on the other side. And now, there is no turning back.

Finally we get some answers. Pieces of Eight was much more entertaining than the first book in this series. We are finding out about Frey's past and watching her try to reconcile her two very different lives. While we are still left out of some pretty important details, mainly because Frey blacks out everytime the story gets really interesting, I am satisfied with what has happened so far. The only big question I would love to have answered is about Chevelle. I am dying to know where he fits in with Frey's past life!

Frey (The Frey Saga, #1)Frey by Melissa Wright
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

From the cover: Unaware she's been bound from using magic, Frey leads a small, miserable life in the village where she's sent after the death of her mother. But a tiny spark starts a fury of changes and she finds hersef running from everything she's ever known.

Hunted by council for practicing dark magic, she is certain she's been wrongfully accused. She flees, and is forced to rely on strangers for protection. But the farther she strays from home, the more her magic and forgotten memories return and she begins to suspect all is not as it seems.

Frey was a unique story that I sort of enjoyed. I say "sort of" because for the majority of the book I was frustrated with the main character. She's naive and clueless. The story can be extremely confusing because Frey is left in the dark about pretty much everthing, which means the reader is also left out of all the important information. I would get so frustrated with Frey while reading because even though her life was turned upside down and she found herself on this journey with pretty much complete strangers she never questioned anything. None the less I could not stop reading because I had to know what happened. In the end I enjoyed the book, even though there are lots of unresolved issues, and I immediately began book two.

Ascend was a great finish to the Trylle trilogy. Wendy and Tove are married even though she is still dealing with her feelings for Finn. She also can't stop thinking about the Vittra prince Loki. I loved this book! So much happens and it all played out perfect for a great ending to this story.

Telesa - The Covenant KeeperTelesa - The Covenant Keeper by Lani Wendt Young
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the cover: When Leila moves to her new home, all she wants is a family, a place to belong. Instead she discovers the local ancient myths of the telesa spirit women are more than just scary stories. The more she finds out about her heritage, the more sinister her new home turns out to be. Daniel - stamped with the distinctive tattoo markings of a noble Pacific warrior and willing to risk everything for the chance to be with her. Can their love stand against the Covenant Keeper?

A thriller-romance with a difference. If you enjoyed Twilight, then you will be enthralled by Telesa as it blends the richness of Pacific mythology into a contemporary young adult love story that will stay with you long after you have turned the final page.

This was such a unique and fascinating book! I loved the story of Leila and Daniel. It's an interesting tale filled with Polynesian culture and mythology. This book is so unlike all the YA books that are popular right now and I think that is one of the reasons I loved it! Leila goes to Samoa, her mother's home country, after she promises her father on his deathbed that she will never go there. When she arrives to learn about her mother's heritage she is suprised by the simple, fun filled lifestyle that Samoans live. This is a great story, and I can't wait to read the next book!

Shadows (Lux, #0.5)Shadows by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Book description:
The last thing Dawson Black expected was Bethany Williams. As a Luxen, an alien life form on Earth, human girls are…well, fun. But since the Luxen have to keep their true identities a secret, falling for one would be insane.

Dangerous. Tempting. Undeniable.

Bethany can’t deny the immediate connection between her and Dawson. And even though boys aren’t a complication she wants, she can’t stay away from him. Still, whenever they lock eyes, she’s drawn in.

Captivated. Lured. Loved.

Dawson is keeping a secret that will change her existence...and put her life in jeopardy. But even he can’t stop risking everything for one human girl. Or from a fate that is as unavoidable as love itself.

This was a great novella! Dawson and Bethany are sweet together and that just made it harder to deal with what happened to them. I hope that's not really the end of them. This book also made me anxious for Onyx! I guess I just have to settle for reading Obsidian again!!

Wings of the Wicked (Angelfire, #2)Wings of the Wicked by Courtney Allison Moulton
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the cover: Life as the Preliator is harder than Ellie ever imagined.
Balancing real life with the responsibility of being Heaven’s warrior is a challenge for Ellie. Her relationship with Will has become all business, though they both long for each other. And now that the secret of who she really is has come out, so have Hell’s strongest reapers. Grown bold and more vicious, the demonic threaten her in the light of day and stalk her in the night.

She’s been warned.
Cadan, a demonic reaper, comes to her with information about Bastian’s new plan to destroy Ellie’s soul and use an ancient relic to wake all the souls of the damned and unleash them upon humanity. As she fights to stay ahead of Bastian’s schemes , the revelations about those closest to her awaken a dark power within Ellie that threatens to destroy everything—including herself.

She’ll be betrayed.
Treachery comes even from those whom she loves, and Ellie is broken by the deaths of those who stood beside her in this Heavenly war. Still, she must find a way to save the world, herself, and her love for Will. If she fails, there will be hell to pay.

Wings of the Wicked was fantastic! I hate reading the second book in a series because they are usually just fillers, but that was not the case with this book. Ellie is awesome and her relationship/non-relationship with Will fills the pages with so much tension that I was dying for them to kiss! So much happens in this book and we get to learn more about both Ellie and Will, and what her previous lives were like. This book is filled with heartache and confusion, and leaves off with a huge cliffhanger that has me desperate for book three!

Tempting the Best ManTempting the Best Man by J. Lynn
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the cover: Madison Daniels has worshipped her brother's best friend since they were kids. Everyone thinks she and Chase Gamble would make the perfect couple, but there are two major flaws in their logic. 1) Chase has sworn off relationships of any kind, and 2) after blurring the line between friends and lovers for one night four years ago, they can't stop bickering.

Forced together for her brother's wedding getaway, Chase and Madison decide to call a truce for the happy couple. Except all bets are off when they're forced to shack up in a tacky 70’s honeymoon suite and survive a multitude of "accidents" as the family tries to prove their "spark" can be used than for more than fighting. That is, if they don't strangle each other first…

Tempting the Best Man was FANTASTIC! I loved this book! Maddie and Chase are awesome and have great chemistry! So far every book I have read by Jennifer L. Armentrout (who uses J. Lynn as a pen name for her adult books) has been amazing! She is definitely one of my favorite authors, and this book does not dissapoint!!!

ScarletScarlet by A.C. Gaughen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

From the cover: readers know the tale of Robin Hood, but they will be swept away by this new version full of action, secrets, and romance.

Posing as one of Robin Hood’s thieves to avoid the wrath of the evil Thief Taker Lord Gisbourne, Scarlet has kept her identity secret from all of Nottinghamshire. Only the Hood and his band know the truth: the agile thief posing as a whip of a boy is actually a fearless young woman with a secret past. Helping the people of Nottingham outwit the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham could cost Scarlet her life as Gisbourne closes in.

It’s only her fierce loyalty to Robin—whose quick smiles and sharp temper have the rare power to unsettle her—that keeps Scarlet going and makes this fight worth dying for

I LOVED Scarlet! It was a great retelling of Robin Hood. Will Scarlet is a member of Robin Hood's band and they are the only ones that know that Will is a girl. The band may know that secret but there's plenty more about Scarlet that they don't know. The characters all have interesting back stories. This book is so original compared to the YA that I've read lately. I will definitely read more from this author.
