Frey by Melissa WrightMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
From the cover: Unaware she's been bound from using magic, Frey leads a small, miserable life in the village where she's sent after the death of her mother. But a tiny spark starts a fury of changes and she finds hersef running from everything she's ever known.
Hunted by council for practicing dark magic, she is certain she's been wrongfully accused. She flees, and is forced to rely on strangers for protection. But the farther she strays from home, the more her magic and forgotten memories return and she begins to suspect all is not as it seems.
Frey was a unique story that I sort of enjoyed. I say "sort of" because for the majority of the book I was frustrated with the main character. She's naive and clueless. The story can be extremely confusing because Frey is left in the dark about pretty much everthing, which means the reader is also left out of all the important information. I would get so frustrated with Frey while reading because even though her life was turned upside down and she found herself on this journey with pretty much complete strangers she never questioned anything. None the less I could not stop reading because I had to know what happened. In the end I enjoyed the book, even though there are lots of unresolved issues, and I immediately began book two.
